Lesley Ann Page CBE      I am a midwife living in the UK. My career has spanned decades and many roles, and many countries. My experience includes hands on practice, academic work, managing large services, President of the Royal College of Midwives, developing national and international policy, international development of high-quality midwifery and maternity care. My focus now is on humanising childbirth: supporting the transformative power of pregnancy birth and the early weeks of life to give the best start in life and a better future.  In 2014, I was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for services to midwifery    I acknowledge joint work with many others in particular for this presentation Professor Soo Downe Professor of Midwifery and Founder of the International Normal Birth Conference and Professor Jane Sandall Professor of Social Science and Women’s Health NIHR Senior investigator

Jonathan Slater

Jonathan Slater     Dr. Slater has enjoyed a long career in public relations, cross-cultural advertising, economic development, public television and the classroom. An authority on academic service learning in public relations, Dr. Slater coordinates the public relations program and its internship program. He was the first faculty adviser to SUNY Plattsburgh’s recently chartered Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter. Dr. Slater earned Lambda Pi Eta’s Outstanding Faculty award for his efforts in the public relations program and “Most Outstanding Faculty Member” for his work in Plattsburgh State’s graduate administration and leadership program.   A former Fellow of SUNY Plattsburgh’s Institute for Ethics in Public Life, Dr. Slater is devoted to building students’ understanding of public relations ethics and regularly has led members of the PRSSA in ethics master classes delivered around the country. Dr. Slater just co-authored the BP ethics case study in the new edition of Public Relations Practices.

Archita Tandon

Archita Tandon     I am Archita Tandon, a Research Scholar from the Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi. I have actively indulged myself as a medical anthropologist with a special focus on maternal health. I am going to present a narrative based on my master's dissertation over the idea of postnatal recuperation among the Kashmiri Muslim women of Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is interesting to note through this study of mine that in the times where medicalisation runs as paramount globally, there stands a binary opposite of it, where women think there isn't a need for recuperation at all. It is Doxa versus medicalisation

Mbianke Livancliff Mforjock     Mbianke Livancliff is a Public Health Expert with 5 years experience working in maternal and child health. He is an award winning advocate with several national and international accolades. He serves as a consultant for the PMNCH and GAVI. His research work surrounding breastfeeding, PTSD and PND has gained a lot of public health interest. He is the founder of “ Mothers support” which is perinatal clinic for psychosocial support for prenatal and postpartum women.

Merette Khalil, MPH     Merette is a WHO (World Health Organization) consultant who represents the 22 countries of the Eastern Mediterranean. She also has volunteer affiliations with the U.N. She is also the founder of Your Egyptian Doula.

Lauren Diamond-Brown, Ph.D

Lauren Diamond-Brown, Ph.D.     Lauren Diamond-Brown, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at SUNY Potsdam where she teaches a course about reproductive justice. She has published research on obstetric decision-making in birth as well as about women’s experiences with unassisted birth (birth at home with no professional attendant). Her current research project seeks to understand people’s experiences of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum where she lives in St. Lawrence County, NY so she can educate her community on their rights to quality care and work with community partners to improve perinatal care

Elaine Anne Coote (formerly Hanzak)

Elaine Anne Coote (formerly Hanzak)    Elaine was a healthy, happily married schoolteacher who was so excited to be expecting a baby. Eight months postnatally she was in a psychiatric hospital, close to suicide. Since her recovery she has made her passion and purpose in life to raise awareness of the importance of perinatal mental health – a woman is much more than ‘just’ her physical body.

Nutan Lakhanpal Pandit

Nutan Lakhanpal Pandit     Nutan L Pandit has been teaching birth preparation classes for 43 years now. She has trained at National Childbirth Trust (NCT) London, and Breastfeeding Promotion Network India (BPNI), and has authored 3 books. One has been translated in 2 languages.  Everything she does, has originated from her own personal experience of birthing and breastfeeding her 2 children effortlessly and joyfully.  Her speaking engagements and TV appearances include, CME (Continuing Medical Education) at Fortis Le Femme Hospital, Delhi; FOGSI (Federation of Obstetric & Gynecological Societies of India) Meeting, Faridabad; Fernandez Hospital, Hyderabad; Doordarshan TV, NDTV, among others; and a paper presentation at the Asia Pacific Midwifery Conference, Hyderabad.    She is responsible for creating many training programmes that have inspired many professionals to become agents of change in their communities.   She also practices Complementary Systems of healing like EFT, Bach Flower Remedies and Acupressure

Chetana Kulkarni

Chetana Kulkarni     Having personally experienced midwifery care for the birth of her first child, in the US, Chetana Kulkarni had a strong desire to bring similar care to the city where she grew up, Bangalore. It took 9 years, a ter her birth, to cross paths with other birth workers in the city and open The Birth Home, a midwifery based, birth center. Chetana believes in the power of passion and perseverance, in the power of birthing people getting the care they deserve and in the power of working with an amazing midwifery team

Sharon Bassan

Sharon Bassan     Sharon Bassan is a legal scholar with expertise in (bio)ethics, health policy, innovation, and information technology law and ethics. She is currently the Jaharis Faculty Fellow in Health Law and Intellectual Property at the DePaul University College of Law, after two years as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University Center for Human Values (UCHV), Princeton University.     Her research addresses emerging technologies that lack a clear regulating authority or a cohesive regulatory framework, which raise ethical challenges and often, commercial interests. Sharon's recent and forthcoming work explores the regulation of reproductive practices and information technologies such as data mining, Big Data, and intelligent systems. Her book “regulating cross-border surrogacy” is forthcoming at Cambridge University Press.

Sevil Hakimi     Experienced academic member with a demonstrated history of working in the less developed regions of Iran. Skilled in clinical research and training . Strong research professional with focused in maternal morbidity, cesarean section, kangaroo mother care, and human milk.

Alexander Enyedi

Alexander Enyedi, President SUNY Plattsburgh     A veteran academic leader, administrator and scholar, Dr. Alexander Enyedi began his leadership of the college in January 2020.   Before coming to the North Country, President Enyedi served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Humboldt State University,where he oversaw 13 distinct units, including three academic colleges, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and the Office for Research and Sponsored Programs, among others.     Alexander Enyedi came to Humboldt State in 2015 after a 22-year career at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. His last five years at Western Michigan were as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Enyedi had direct oversight of 26 departments, schools and interdisciplinary programs. He joined the Western Michigan faculty in 1993 as an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. He moved through the ranks to full professor there in 2002. He was named associate dean in 2005 and dean in 2010.
